Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children (RCIC)
Our process, the Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children (RCIC), is an intensive program, which will lead up to celebrations of the Sacraments at the Easter Vigil.
All of our children in this program are older than normal Sacramental prep children. As such, we have to prepare them for reception of Baptism (for some), Reconciliation (for some) and for reception of the Eucharist (for all the children). Each child is in a different personal circumstance and we will work with our families to prepare to celebrate the necessary Sacraments with your child(ren) at the Easter Vigil Mass on Holy Saturday.
Registration for RCIC takes place on the first weekend of August after all the Masses, in the St. John Room of the Church office, and online registration is also available (see the home page for more informantion). There is no fee for the RCIC process.
The classes are held on Sunday mornings, beginning in the fall. For class each week, your child(ren) must arrive in the St. Mark Room no later than 9:30 am, as they will participate in a portion of the 9:45 am Mass. They will sit in a reserved section of the Church until after the HOMILY. They will go back to class in the St. Mark Room until approximately 11:00 am.
A team of Catechists will be working with your child(ren) each week preparing them for their special celebrations. These Catechists are making a serious personal investment away from their own families to prepare your child(ren), so please recognize the importance of attending each class and Mass, to have your child(ren) fully prepared for the Sacraments.
Because there is so much to do to prepare your child(ren), we are asking for REGULAR class and Mass attendance. Excessive absences will require postponement of the Sacraments. We will be pastoral due to serious family emergencies and an occasional absence. No student may miss more than four classes (two per semester)!
Please know that we want to do our best for your child(ren). If absences become an obstacle to full preparation, MBS reserves the right to determine their readiness for the reception of the Sacraments. We urge you to bring your child(ren) to this Sacramental preparation process so that they will be well prepared to receive the Sacraments at Easter.
